Winner of LEAF-Bayer Farming Primary aged Partnership Awards
We only went and won it! Delighted to say that we are now the proud winners of the LEAF-Bayer Farming Primary Partnership award!
This award "celebrates a farm that has built and continues to build a successful relationship with primary schools (5-11 year olds) and makes a valuable and sustained contribution to school life, both on and away from the farm" and we're thrilled to have been singled out amongst plenty of other great farms for doing just that. Specifically, the judges were "looking for those organisations which generate creative partnerships that are making real and lasting differences to young children’s understanding of farming and where their food comes from."
Kent as a county also won the Secondary school award (Brockhill Park) and the innovation award (APS Produce, also based in nearby Ash).
Have a look at our video (which we also won) about the outdoor education we do on the farm. In it we have a Seedlings Farm School session, where children could grind wheat and turn it into flour, which they mixed with water (including rainwater!) to make dough sticks. These they roasted on the fire to make bread. This was then followed by a school trip with a Year 5 and 6 class where we were learning about seeds and methods of dispersal.
